THE WINE-PRODUCING ENVIRONMENT

Clos d'Agon (Costa Brava, Spain) is in a beautiful area of Calonge (Girona) under the DO Catalunya. In the neighbourhood it is possible to find well known tourist areas as the Palamos Coast and Platja d'Aro. The antique city of Girona is located approximately 30 kilometers away from the international airport of Girona.

Six wine enthusiastic friends, among them Franz J. Wermuth (merchant of wine / wine auctioneer), Frank Ebinger (Casa del Vino, Zürich) and Silvio Denz (Faugères Château St. Emilion) acquired this renowned wine-growing environment in 1998.
Historic olive trees and exotic trees remind a legendary culture already related with wine. Around 350 years ago, wine was already produced in this place. In the past, there had been hybrid vines planted in this area. Clos d'Agon is located about 100 m above the sea level, positioned to the south-southwest and on the edge of a valley, the place is embedded and protected by huge forests that compose the Natural Area of "Gavarres. The total area of the vineyard environment covers around 42 hectares, 15 of which already have planted vineyard. In the center is located the winery and an old farmhouse of 350 years of history, which provides a beautiful and sunny terrace with sea views.

In autumn 2002 began the work for the construction of a new and larger winery and finishing in 2006. The fermentation rooms have thermo-regulated steel and the rearing rooms (fully air conditioned) meet the most demanding and high quality requirements. The new building has been very successful creating a contrast to the old settlement. In order to be able to produce a high quality wine, the "famous" wine grower and winemaker Peter Sisseck (Hacienda Monasterio in the Ribera del Duero and Pingus) was recruited. In this way it was possible to produce this great wine.
